Looks like there's going to be a big Commander event in three cities before the end of this year, hosted by Channelfireball, SCG, and Pasttimes.

Seattle & Chicago: Nov. 1-3.
Washington DC: Dec. 13-15.

And Sheldon will be at the Seattle and DC ones.

Has he? I'll admit I've only seen him say something about DC, but I haven't been paying enough attention about it. I've been wondering about possibly going to the one in Seattle. The description on the site currently selling tickets for it is...particularly vague though.

And it's a bit of a high price for going.

Yeah, he said on Twitter that he got invited to both.

I think the Foil Sol Rings go for just about the price of admission

I'd rather not be forced to buy an expensive card, you know? I mean, cool card and all, but I'm not really one to go too fancy with stuff. I also don't really *need* another Sol Ring. The other problem is the price of this card will inevitably go down since these events will put more of them onto the market.

It'd just be nice to have some more details about what's *actually* going down at these events. I'm sure it won't be just a big room with some tables set up, but I'm also hesitant to pay over $100 just for access to what amounts to an LGS. That's literally across the country for me regardless of location.

Okay, that makes sense. There was a different place he listed only DC as the one he was attending.

I think I'll get one for SCGCON in November, but I'll probably just offload it to someone.

Segrus: It was later today when he found out about Seattle, I believe.

Based on the thread title, I thought this was spoiling a new Sorcery. Something like:

Quote:
Commandfest 2RGW

Starting with you, each player that controls their Commander may have that creature fight a commander target player controls. You gain life equal to the total damage dealt this way.

-------------------------

I hope anybody that attends one of these enjoys themselves, but they are definitely not up my alley. I think the last event I attended that was remotely similar to this was GenCon 01 (or 02, whichever year WW announced Time of Judgement) and I realized very quickly that I no longer enjoy any gatherings > about 12-15 people. MtG wise, the last large event I attended was Urza's Saga pre-release (Late 1998 - Dallas IIRC), and I gave up on competitive magic about a year later.

Nice of him to try to make more than one of these. :D

Juicy card there.
I went to a GP in Atlanta some time ago, when they had that first Commander Celebration or something. I didn't participate in virtually any of the organized Commander games and mostly just caught pickup casual games the entire time. That was worthwhile to me at the time.

Honestly I've been needing to take a trip somewhere and get away for awhile. Going to one of these is as good a reason as any.

I just meant you would have value past playing games.

That is effectively was the Command Zone was in Vegas. And less than half full 99% of the time.

I'll be very interested to see the average power level of decks at these events.

Confirming what cryo said: I'll be at Seattle and DC as well as November SCGCon.

Cool. Sounds like you'll be making a lot of trips. I guess I'll have to consider getting tickets to Seattle.

Between flying back home every other week for treatment and side trips to Roanoke and DC, yeah, I'm going to pile up the miles.
