Hey all... I was wondering what you guys do to track commander damage.
In a 4 or 5 player game, it can get complicated to track who's commander has dealt damage to whom, especially in the rare cases where 3 or 4 player are playing aggressive decks.
Is there any easy way to track this I haven't thought of?
Perhaps an App for my iPhone?

My general commander philosophy: Using your opponent's degenerate cards against them is far more satisfying than playing degenerate cards yourself.

I use a D20. IF someone gets above 20 general damage, it don't need a die anymore.

When we track general damage (we often don't have generals who will consistently deal 21 damage), we usually tell the person who has the general doing the damage that it is up to them to track how much general damage they have done to a person.

That way those who don't care (Xira Arien) don't have to make their lives more complicated.

The only downside, is once you've dealt general damage to one opponent, you tend to feel compelled to continue to do so to that same player so you don't have to track another number.

We have one person each game (usually me) keep up with all life totals. That person also tracks general damage. (I don't mind then job because I can make plays based on life totals without alerting anyone by asking what their life total is.) I do it like this:

Player 1: 39 38 (1A) 37
Player 2: 33 (7K) 26 (14K)

Player 1 (playing Karrthus) paid 1 life to a fetchland, took 1 hit from Ashling, and used another fetchland. Player 2 (playing Ashling) has been hit by Karrthus twice. (I guess Ashling got Lignified or sumthin.)

Pen+paper is the simplest way.

I'm not cool enough to have an iphone, but that seems to have the same problem as dice: there is no record. Pen& paper always allows you to "go back in time" if you missed something.

In my group, the person whose general is dealing the damage keeps track of how much damage their general has done to each player. Depending on the deck, the player may or may not even need to track general damage.

There are bunch of Android life-tracking apps that keep history :D Magic TG Tracker is probably the nicest one.

Well I personally use a iphone that only tracks life and damage on two players. But generally it's not a problem because my playgroup is fairly good at remembering numbers, more importantly my own general is a 2/2.

I <3 my Droid for many reasons, one of which is because it allows me to use said tools. Previously I was just using extra dice, which is both annoying AND liable to be knocked over.

If you don't care as much about history, MTG Utilities is a good one that I use, which includes a general life counter, a Commander-specific life tracker (supports up to 5 enemy commanders), deck manager, card search utility, and win-loss stat tracking. Looking at Magic TG Tracker, though, that application might be better. Hmm. Must investigate.

ETA: MTG Tracker doesn't appear to have a separate general damage tracker. Boo-urns.
