Tarasco,

Saw your link last night and checked it out of boredom (sorry  ). Really interesting articles! I've never played MTGO, but I'll be sure to keep reading your stuff. Thanks, and keep up the good work!

Thanks man, glad you liked them! I think I'm starting to get into my groove as a writer, figuring out a format that I like. Obviously the decks aren't the most powerful, but they're fun for the most part and do well online.

There are two main differences between MTGO and paper:

1. Bugs. Bugs pop up occasionally that screw things up. For a while Child of Alara would blow up the world even if exiled, which was annoying. The most recent big one was that your general would go to the graveyard if it received lethal damage. That sucked for decks based around your general. Plus the random card interaction bugs that occur. There's a lot of programming involved, and things occasionally don't work exactly as they should.

2. Card availability. Currently MTGO is missing all of Masques block, Urza's Legacy and Destiny. However, these are all supposed to come out online within a year. Sets prior to Mirage block are still missing, but a lot of the major cards have been reprinted in specialty sets. Still no Sol Ring tho :(

Other than that it's pretty much good to go. There aren't any rules questions, because the client figures it all out for you. I enjoy the fact that when I fire up MTGO, the longest I have to wait for a game is 10 minutes.

So please keep reading. And if you have any questions or suggestions, let me know in the comments or here! Thanks again!

Ok, I've come back to this and decided that the OPs need to be organised a little differently to avoid articles falling through the cracks and other acts of God (like my chronic laziness!)

I've cut the individual articles for generic searches by author for those that write columns in various places. In some cases, it doesn't make that much difference, Sheldon & Tarasco write EDH-related content almost exclusively for example, but the Bennie Smith search will cough up all of Bennies work on that site, not just the EDH related content. That's not a bad thing because Bennie is a good writer and us EDHers don't live in a bubble (heh!) but you may have to work a little harder to find what you want.

That said, if you have ideas for specific articles on EDH or multiplayer that are pretty much the seminal article on a specific subject (I know that the Ferret has written some multiplayer gems down through the years), don't be afraid to link them on here and I will, I promise, get around to adding it at some point. I've left the Bennie Smith EDH primers parts 1, 2 & 3 on here for example. Give me more and I'll add more.

Updated to include:

EDH: The Moment
Commander Cast (Podcast)
Surging Chaos & Ghooost channels (YouTube)
The Command Zone (Blog)

I'd also like your suggestions on any particularly insightful topics or posts on here. I'm thinking in the vein of Fugu's recent "Hypercreatures" thread. Anything that is thought-provoking.

I was really helped by the article that tempesteye links to in this thread. The article itself is here.

The author tells the story of Tribal Wars, an online casual format, and what happened when it became sanctioned, then unsanctioned again. It's like peering into a dystopian future where EDH is sanctioned! A must-read for anyone curious about what makes casual play work.
