We're getting a few cards now, although just promos and a smattering of Rakdos cards to illustrate their new mechanic. We'll get a mechanic revealed each day this week.

Anyway...

(This is the Buy-a-Box promo.)

(Potential replacement for Urban Evolution?)

(And you thought Land Equilibrium had a hefty price tag before. I expect Mana Vortex to also go up in price.)

Some great looking cards! I like Spectacle can be more or less depending.

The set symbol is WAY too close to Guilds. Ugh

Lavinia is weird to read, but I think I understand it, she hates on artifact mana and mana doublers. So she's a sweet hatebear for legacy and vintage, not too bad for us and straight unplayable in standard?

Yes, but she ALSO hates on stuff like Force of Will and Cascade.

I like The Haunt. It's like if Vulturous Zombie was legendary. And wasn't green. And had lifelink. And was a specter.

Still in love with the promo card frame.

Today, we're introduced to the new Orzhov mechanic, afterlife.

For the record, the number indicates the number of Spirits you get, not their size. A card with afterlife 3 would get you three 1/1 Spirits, not a single 3/3 Spirit.

(My guess is that tomorrow will have Azorius, then Simic, and finally Gruul. That way, each successive day shares a color with the previous.)

I like it so far. Of course, my three favorite guilds are all packed into one set, so...

Imperious oligarch as a 2/1 vigilant that replaces itself with a 1/1 flyer seems ok for pauper, not sure if it's an edh card.
Compare to putrid warrior (2/2 suck a life or grant a life) and tithe drinker (2/1 lifelink extort).

I suggest tithe drinker > imperious oligarch > putrid warrior

Well, my hypothesis was wrong. Today isn't Azorius; it's Simic. And they get adapt, which is basically monstrosity that can be repeated if the counters go away for some reason. {eyes Sage of Fables}

In which the previous Simic Guildleader is revealed to be a rare.

Alternative conclusion: Simic research is iterative. We'll see the return of our previous "Guild Leader", Kraj.

There's an elf lady that's appeared on the Ravnica Alliegance packaging carrying the trident Zegana held in Prime Speaker Zegana. My thinking she's the Simic leader, and I'm willing to bet she's also a Bant planeswalker.

I have been looking for the source, but I am pretty sure Judith is a Rakdos character.

Whoops! I deleted some text from my post but didn't delete that footnote. Yes, Judith is definitely not going to be that elf, I think Judith is the Rakdos-looking woman on the boosters.

The original text was something like this:

“The booster packs each depict someone clearly aligned with a guild coming out this set: Azorius (Lavinia), Orzhov (Kaya), Rakdos (maybe Judith?*), and Gruul (Domri Rade), leaving the mystery elf likely to be Simic.”

Then I realised she has that trident so of course she's Simic-aligned.

I can't see any reason for her to be Bant. It doesn't make sense for only one of the guild leaders to have a color outside the guild, and it would probably anger Simic players who want a goodie for their guild in the mythic slot, with very little benefit. I am not sure who is looking for another Bant walker when there are several wedges and shards with no walker yet.

I think it would be cool, but we already have 2. Tamiyo, Field Researcher is pretty awesome, and like Coco says they have done stuff like that in the past (never in Ravnica of course) and upset a fair amount of people.
