Hi there everyone! Happy to be be back after 5 years away from the site and about 3 years away from MTG completely. I think that was my longest hiatus so far, and I've had quite a few. I think I really need to stop selling my collection every time I quit playing (though in the past I often quit playing because I was broke)... Anywho, I'm back and I'm only playing draft, sealed, and commander this time around.

I'm only going to have this one deck, and it's going to be one that will take me quite a while to finish building & foiling, because I'm only going to be adding to it by trading what I get from limited events. I think that, mixed with the lack of a specific play-style, combos, or goals besides having fun, is going to give this deck a LOT of re-playability.

What I'm building
My plan for the deck is 40 lands, 40 planeswalkers, 19 spells, and 1 creature: the general. I chose a general that is a board-sweeper as well, so I'm ok with including (him? her? it?), although if there was a 5-color planeswalker, I'd totally be using that as my general whenever possible. I'm going to be playing this deck in FFA, 1v1, 2HG, and possibly other formats, but never competitively. I want to make each game exciting & fun, by playing things that are threatening, but not overwhelming for the most part, and dealing with major problems on the board (most often by sweeping the board).

This is the current deck list I'm building. Struck-through cards I don't have yet, and their temporary placeholder is listed next to them. Cards with an asterix (*) next to them I already have the foil/alternate art copy of.

What I'm looking for help on
-I'm looking for better options in spell slots. I like the idea idea of my removal being things that can get around hexproof, shroud, and indestructible. It's also nice having my board-wipes ignore planeswalkers.

-I'm trying to decide which versions of planeswalkers to keep for those with multiple versions. I think I'm ok running 2 versions of a PW, but no more. Jace & Sarkhan are the 2 I want to trim down at the moment. I'm also thinking I don't need 2 copies of Tezzeret, as my deck isn't overly invested in artifacts. I'm leaning towards keeping just the blue version, since it lets me tutor for the artifacts I do have.

-Right now my plan for lands is 10 shocks, 10 fetch, 10 shards (slowly converting to original duals), 5 basics (one of each), and 5 others (4 "any color" & Tolaria West). I'm looking for input here, should I run the shards or just make it 15 "other"?

Give some thought to Inexorable Tide.

That's pretty awesome, thanks! It's definitely on the maybe list now. I want to have a lot of options for adding counters to my walkers, since many times they'll get attacked the turn after they get played.

Inexorable Tide is awesome in my Vorel deck. I also use Contagion Engine, and Contagion Clasp might also be useful.

I've got both the Engine & Clasp in the deck right now, though only the Engine in my "ideal" list. I'm considering keeping the clasp as well, but I'm not sure what I want to take out for it. I do love that proliferate, but it's also tough to cut when I only have a few sweepers, a few draw/tutor, and a few ramp/color-fixing cards.

I'm considering cutting down to just one copy of each planeswalker to make some more room for spells. It's so hard to limit some of the planeswalkers though; Ajani, Jace, and Sarkhan come to mind first.

I think you could easily cut Daretti - you just don't have enough artifacts for him.

I could, but I kind of like him, and I like having as much diversity in planeswalkers as possible.

I'm actually thinking of cutting down to only 1 version of each planeswalker, allowing the deck to be 30 planeswalkers/30 spells/40 lands, and I like the sound of that, then just slowly increase the quantity of PWs as new sparks are ignited. This would, unfortunately, mean having to get rid of:
1 Ajani
1 Garruk
3 Jace
1 Lilliana
2 Sarkhan
1 Sorin
1 Tezzeret (This one I'm most fine with)
This would give me 10 more spaces, and I would add in Domri Rade, Koth of the Hammer, and Nahiri, the Lithomancer so I have a copy of every planeswalker in the deck. That would leave me with 7 slots open, enough to slide almost my entire maybeboard into the deck!
