Hello :D

So I was Gatherer-researching something completely different and stumbled upon KTR Warrior tribal cards in white and black. That got me thinking, but the Khans block had just enough tribal support for limited and casual constructed. So I turned to the rest of Magic for help. The history reminded me that Morningtide had Warriors as part of its "class" theme...in red and green. Never one to give up a deck idea easily, I thought: "So what? Four-color commanders are around the corner, let's do this!" So I searched for every card with "Warrior" in the text box and/or type line. I ended up with quite a list and it got me thinking. I'm actually toying with the thought of going full-creature, since there are many Warriors with useful utility abilities like Manic Vandal, Den Protector, Madrush Cyclops or Fleshbag Marauder/Merciless Executioner. Classic tribal is also an option, with Patriarch's Bidding and the other usual suspects.

I usually brew my decks by myself, but this one I thought would be fun to just throw at the community for brainstorming. What to keep? What to throw out? Go full throttle with creatures, classic tribal or something else?

Two things are set in stone:
1) The theme is Warrior tribal. Preferably all creatures in the deck should be Warriors. Also, there's enough of them, so no changelings neccessary ;)
2) The colors are BRGW. There are a few blue Warriors (Grimgrin, Corpse-Born comes to mind) but there is just too few of them, even fewer are actually good, plus I already have five-color decks, so don't bother suggesting blue as a whole.

Quote:
THE LIST
When I get home tonight, I'll post the rest of the search results I consider worthy of including, but as a general idea:
Arashin Foremost
Blood-Chin Fanatic
Boldwyr Intimidator
Bramblewood Paragon
Brighthearth Banneret
Brutal Hordechief
Butcher of Malakir
Champion of Stray Souls
Chief of the Edge
Chief of the Scale
Den Protector
Figure of Destiny
Fleshbag Marauder
Ghitu Encampment
Gilt-Leaf Ambush
Gilt-Leaf Winnower
Graveblade Marauder
Hazezon Tamar
Hidden Dragonslayer
Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs
Kresh the Bloodbraided
Lovisa Coldeyes
Madrush Cyclops
Manic Vandal
Merciless Executioner
Moriok Replica
Nacatl War-Pride
Ogre Battledriver
Sosuke, Son of Seshiro
Varolz, the Scar-Striped
Vhati il-Dal
Viridian Zealot
Warden of the First Tree
Warrior en-Kor
Wort, the Raidmother
Wrecking Ogre
Zealous Conscripts
Zurgo Helmsmasher

Last note: don't feel limited by the cost of the manabase. I'm very inclined to just use proxies for nonbasics, so that won't be an issue :)

You should probably find room for:
Obsidian Battle-Axe
Raiders' Spoils
Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

You might consider:
Hamletback Goliath (another Kresh)
Jazal Goldmane (ever paired it with Nacatl War-Pride?)
Jedit Ojanen of Efrava
Mardu Strike Leader
Radha, Heir to Keld
Secure the Wastes
Soulblast
Sylvan Offering
Tahngarth, Talruum Hero
Vhati il-Dal
Zo-Zu the Punisher
Doran, the Siege Tower
Unstoppable Ash
(nevermind, I thought for sure Doran was a Warrior)

Also, why do you want to include Wort, the Raidmother? If you're going full-creature (or nearly), her conspire ability does nothing (and it only applies to half your colors even if you do decide to include instants and sorceries), so she's really only 2 warriors for 6 mana. Ambassador Oak is more efficient than that.

For I think that going 100% creatures is going to make the deck play out rather dully. Sure, you'll have a different pile of creatures each time, but it is always just going to be a pile of guys that turn sideways with some incidental ETB and dies effects. I don't think the theme will be diminished if you have things like Gruul War Chant, Swell of Courage, or other spells that feel warrior-y. You will likely end up creature-heavy, but going 100% is almost always a mistake, IMO.

That's just an error on closing your strikethrough, right? Because Unstoppable Ash is wrath protection and is only half a step away from Dolmen Gate on your dudes. Speaking of Dolmen Gate...it would be breaking the warrior theme mechanically, but not thematically, to include Iroas, God of Victory.

I played a WBRG deck built around a legend i created for a while. It was based on destruction, and included lots of cards said the word 'destroy' (and ofc that's why blue was omitted, very few cards of blue say destroy but many exist for the other 4 colors) and was a control deck all in all.

While i played a few of the coolest removal spells (like Decimate i had a thing about playing upwards of 40 creatures and very few noncreatures. I didn't have the tribal theme, but i played all the creatures that ETB and destroy another creature, artifact, or enchantment (and a few hit lands). On top of that, i played all non-blue Lieges from SHM to pump up some of the durdliest guys like Qasali Pride-made into actual fighters.

There's some warrior lords, for sure, but you might look into playing some of the anthem effects. Dictate of Heliod and Cathar's Crusade are all-stars in very heavily creature based strategies. If you smudge on the 'warrior' creature type for a few creatures, obviously Elesh Norn is sweet, too.

Something to consider.

If you're going to be throwing a bunch of creatures about ... Champion of Lambholt might not be a bad inclusion. Fairly cheap drop, buffs itself while your deck does its thing, and grants creatures evasion.

I tried not to duplicate previous suggestions.....
Most of the suggestions below are obvious why they made my list, some will depend on deck direction (shoring up weaknesses, exploiting counters or not, going wide with tokens or not, etc.)

Warriors to Consider:
Rhys the Redeemed
Elvish Skysweeper
Herald of Dromoka
Kargan Dragonlord
Duskwatch Recruiter
Civic Wayfinder
Archetype of Aggression
Inner-flame Igniter
Alesha, Who Smiles at Death
Marisi's Twinclaws
Brion Stoutarm
Drumhunter
Daghatar the Adamant
Dragonscale General
Nath of the Gilt-Leaf
Warchief Giant
Livonya Silone
Sabertooth Nishoba
Nacatl Hunt-Pride
Allosaurus Rider
Petrified Wood-kin

Non-Warriors you may consider
Adaptive Automaton
Aysen Crusader

Non-creature Warrior and/or tribal to consider (if you decide to add a few non-creatures)
Ghitu Encampment
Warriors' Lesson
Shared Triumph
Cover of Darkness
Pack's Disdain
Kin-tree Invocation
Mardu Charm
Mercy Killing
Giantbaiting
Harsh Mercy
Door of Destinies
Rush of Battle
Feudkiller's Verdict
Obelisk of Urd

Non-creature other to consider
Grim Backwoods
Cloud Key
Help with flying (probable Weakness)
Gravity Well
Raking Canopy
Card Draw (two or three, if needed):
Vampiric Rites
Sylvan Library
Elemental Bond
Phyrexian Arena
Primitive Etchings
Deathreap Ritual
Zendikar Resurgent

Hope that helps

Hi

Is this in preparation for the new 4 colour WOTC commander decks coming in Nov?

Very cool idea reminds me of stronghold, legions block with 100% creature decks, the creatures all had enter battle triggers, GO CLERICS GO  , those were the days.

I am glad someone suggested Alesha, who smiles at death, I use her in mini commander, I jokingly consider her the ambassador of Boros and Rakdos. Alesha can net a lot of your fellow warriors back into the fray with enter triggers. I'd also suggest this great flavor/ability creature, ACTUALLY I insist this creature is perfect/must for warrior tribal:Boldwyr Intimidator. Having the ability to make opposing creatures ''cowards'' is too awesome. Even though your going warriors tribal all archetypes are great to consider in any creature heavy edh deck for there multi purpose creature and a mastery over: red:trample, green:hexproof, black:deathtouch, white:first strike. They could be considered minor deities/avatar to the warriors.

I know your trying for complete 100% creature but green land fetch spells should be considered and local enchantments that grant haste/abilities to all your creatures(furnace of rath, pandemonium 8) ); mana, haste and enter triggers are super important in mostly creature decks. You want to hit the ground running.

cheers

Thanks for all the suggestions! Appreciate it a lot :)

I think I'll let this slowly brew until this year's commander spoilers start and see if any of the four-colored commanders fit.

Well, I actually said I'm only considering this as an option, haven't decided yet. However, all creatures included will be Warriors, I can promise you that ;)

Lovisa isn't a warrior, but she was on your list...

<grin>

Or will you be using the alternate Tribal rules I put forth in the Format Variations forum?

Pretty exciting! I've been wishing Nephilim were [O]fficial Commanders for a long time. Hoping the new ones at least include legendary creatures with the Nephilim type, just because I've grown so fond of their special weirdness.

Seems legit. Time will tell what the fate of miss Coldeyes will be.

For such a creature-heavy deck, I'd like to suggest Reconnaissance. It's such a good card, and still pretty thematic.
