There's been a ruling by the EDH rules committee earlier (in a thread I've had to find and link to way too many times already) that you're allowed to play any number of Relentless Rats, even though you're not allowed to play more than one copy of the card in other highlander formats. In other words, this ruling (from Gatherer) doesn't apply:

Quote:
12/1/2004: This card's text does not override other format-imposed restrictions on the number of cards. For example, in a Highlander format, you would still only be allowed one Relentless Rat.

Also, even a non-optimized Relentless Rats decklist should have Swarmyard in it. You just can't play a rat deck without that card.

An EDH forum can have any number of threads about Relentless Rats.
If Relentless Thread would leave the battlefield, exile it from the game instead with 365 time counters on it and it gains suspend.
"Didn't this get answered a year ago?"
"Yeah, but people are too lazy to use the search function."
"Oh yeah..."

With or without the RC's say, the ruling from 2004 is no longer correct. See Rule 112.6j:
Quote:
112.6j An ability that modifies the rules for deck construction functions before the game begins. Such an ability modifies not just the Comprehensive Rules, but also the _Magic: The Gathering_ Tournament Rules and any other documents that set the deck construction rules for a specific Constructed format. However, such an ability can't affect the format legality of a card, including whether it's banned or restricted.

Note the bolded portion.

That's not how magic works. You can't equate cards and situations linearly like that!
