Hi,

I'm new to these boards and some of the EDH rules still aren't quite clear to me.

One of these:
with your general in the command zone; is it "as though it is in your hand"?
Aka can you "suspend" ith, high arcanist from the command zone? I assume you can.
Can you discard your general from the command zone to pay the upkeep for masticore? I assume "no".

LMK,
thanks,

lplaat

The Command Zone is not considered your hand for any abilities. You cannot suspend a general, nor can you play Phage or Haakon as a general at all.
And no, you may not discard your general for any reason.

(You may always speak to your playgroup about these rules and ask that they be allowed, of course.)

Hi Iplaat

Welcome to the boards.

Unfortunatly, only cards physically in your hand can be discarded (or cycled) and I'm fairly sure suspend is only if you're casting from your hand so Ith would have to be physically in your hand to be suspended.

Filth, an opinion?

If you want to build an Ith deck, I strongly encourage you to ask your playgroup's permission to suspend Ith from the command zone. If you agree to pay 2 more each time you have to suspend him from there, there should be no power level issue. We should encourage unique generals to be played!

This, except if you have Platinum Angel out Phage could be cast without losing you the game. Very narrow/bad deck of course, but it can be done.
