I have seen alot of deck lists on the EDH forums since I have been on here, but I havent seen Mana crypt on any of the ones I have looked at, is that because its got a ban on it or something, or is it in the same ranks as Imperial seal, and just hard to find?

i dont believe that it is banned, I just think the reason it is not in many deklists is because of the possibility of bolting yourself every turn is a big turn-off

All of the Karn decks I've seen posted on these forums run it.

i run it in my sliver queen deck and the possible bolt is well worth the free 2 mana.

It is a good card but:
Sol Ring and probably Mana Crypt are better in this format.
And it is $30-50 not to mention fairly rare.

Mana Crypt is the card in question, do you mean Mana Vault?

It's legal. I play it in one of my decks, just the oe that plays lots of artifact mana and can justify playing a card with a risk associated with it. In a slower format like this, sometimes something like Darksteel Ingot can be better - it produces colored mana, can't be destroyed, doesn't shock you every other turn.

On Starcity, Mana Crypt in near mint is 50$ which means it is really worth at most 30$. I don't run it because I don't feel it fits my 5-color mana base good enough. I run 10 duals, 10 sac (mirage/onslaught), 10 shocklands (they hurt enought the way it is), and various other legendary lands stripmines, etc. In other words, I rely on having all colors of mana by the 5th-6th turn so as you can imagine, it just doesn't fit.

I own at least one Mana Crypt, (can't remember actual # atm) but none of my decks really work with it that well. Most run strategies that are either color-heavy, or are designed for longer games where that avg. 1.5 damage per turn is a large factor.

My Oona's EDH loves crypt. In order to both cast her and play her activated ability.

My duelling opponent plays it (he's not allowed out in the evenings, as his succubus wife needs him there to observe her watching the Spanish soaps); I don't think he's won yet when he's played it. On average it will do 12 damage over 8 turns, which isn't going to cut in EDH. Especially since my decks are usually built pretty slow and control oriented, even the ones we duel with.

Grim Monolith is often so much better than Mana Vault in the format for similar reasons.

Yes, yes I do.

I’ve always enjoyed the card because of its ability to turn one Tinker for Darksteel Colossus, but that’s harder to do in EDH, much harder.

I've playtested Mana Crypt in many casual multiplayer decks (EDH and non-EDH) over the past year. It simply does you too much damage to be a good card. In a duel with Type I decks, where the game is over in a few turns at most, Mana Crypt is very nice. In the EDH games I've seen around here (which take a dozen turns or more), it's suicide.

I also playtested Jack-in-the-Mox (for groups that allow Un-sets), and came to pretty much the same conclusion. The tiny bit of speed isn't worth the damage.

What *is* good for mana accel. is (in my opinion):

Sol Ring (obviously)
Fellwar Stone (frequently can generate any color)
Gilded Lotus
Thran Dynamo
Jet Medallion, Sapphire Medallion, etc. in your General's colors
Paradise Plume (a little slow but the life gain is pretty good)
Coalition Relic

Beyond that there's a host of 3 CC ones (Ingot, Searchlight, etc.)
