*my most recent revision (8/14/11), comments are still welcome*

I just wanted to get everyone's suggestions/opinion on my Wort deck. I know everyone has one of these already but it's my favorite and I've put a lot of effort into tuning it as much as I can.

I've taken into account that my playgroup always plays multi-player free for all games and tried to make a deck that's a little toolboxy. I like to focus on the comes into play and leaves play abilities of my goblins and the synergies that tend to form along those lines. I have a Kiki-Jiki infinite win combo in here but I REALLY don't want to focus on it as anything but an afterthought answer to any combo decks I run into. (I don't take much joy in a single move win for the entire table)

I get that you're going for a more fast, aggressive deck, but I feel like you could use some more "big spells" - stuff like Insurrection, Decree of Pain, and Warp World.

Other ideas:
Goblin Assault
Quest for the Goblin Lord
Terminate
Wrecking Ball*
Hoarder's Greed*

*Both have goblins in the art, keeping to your theme.

I am inclined to agree with insurrection and the like. I have a few good spells along those lines I've been toying with putting in (or back in) plague wind being a favorite example.

I think you are right regarding wrecking ball (and I do love that art!) and terminate.

Hoarder's Greed I kind of like but if I wanted more card drawing I'd likely swap in my vampiric tutor just so I could grab phyrexian arena.

I'm not much a fan of Quest for the goblin lord because there are plenty of other cards which could give similar effect without being conditional.

Goblin Assault I have to disagree flat out on. The fact that it forces all of my creatures to attack every turn regardless of how the board looks far outweighs the single token it gives me each turn.

Thanks for the tips! :)

I'd suggest adding Quietus Spike, Basilisk Collar and Hoarding Dragon, that last one unless your deck is intended to only have Goblins. A Collar equipped in Skirk Fire Marshal makes for a huge life swing. Similarly, you can potentially have another sweeper in Goblin Sharpshooter when it is equipped with any of those artifacts. Also, Brittle Effigy is colorless spot removal and it helps against creatures with those three pesky words: "Protection from Red" (or black).

I did have a spike before and I often consider moving it back in.

Would lifelink really work that way with the firemarshall's ability? I thought it had to be combat damage? Same question with deathtouch?

I'm beginning to think very highly on the effigy. It seems like the sort of card that any EDH deck could benefit from.

I like the dragon but it's not quite powerful enough to warrant inclusion in the few non-goblin slots I have. Basically, I took vampiric tutor out of my deck and so any non-goblin I consider has to pass my tutor test: i.e., would I rather draw my tutor, or THIS card? :P

Thanks for the tips :)

You're welcome. Lifelink and deathtouch work with any kind of damage. That's why the Standard combo of Cunning Sparkmage and Basilisk Collar work. You can equip a Goblin Sharpshooter with either equipment and clear the opponent's board.

Nice deck,

Decree of pain could really help any deck back in the game. I know it is alot better in control type decks but still I would try it here.
Warren Pilferers could also help
Basilisk Collar is staple in any creature based EDH deck. Esp if you could put it under a sharpshooter....:-) Insanity
Goblin assault seems ok
Skullclamp is always an option, good against removal

Now that I better understand deathtouch, basilisk collar and quietus spike are definitely going in the deck.

Skullclamp was part of my deck but is house banned at my local card shop.

Decree of pain is very solid, if I do make room for a big spell I think this will go in over some others like insurrection or plague wind.

I'll never put goblin assault in my deck, the forcing me to attack line just destroys all strategies I'm aiming for.

Warren pilferers... originally I disregarded them on the grounds that Wort was enough recursion... but they're good with my copy stuff or even to get double duty out of wort. I think I'll reconsider them.

Thanks for your suggestions, both of you. And everyone else who's posted. I feel like I'm getting some great advice here and I really want to push my Wort deck into a highly tuned machine! :P

and this is a perfect example of why I keep grave pact in the deck alongside warren weirding.

I've been thinking of adding goblin assassin. Anybody have any experience with its effectiveness?

The assassin can be good, especially if you're pumping out gobbo tokens. Get Krark's Thumb to break the symmetry.

Shared Animosity is a good enhancer for tribal swarms.

See if you can slip in Goblin Bookie, too; why flip one coin when you can flip four? :D

Alright, I have a semi/final build for my deck now which I'll edit into my original post. Although my deck has been good as a beater I've discovered it's not so bad at control (unless they're using enchantments- blah) Owing to the large amounts of WOG effects I've upped the amount of cards to help me survive mass removal and also increased my own removal effects.

I really appreciate everyone's help with this, if you have suggestions keep them coming- I really appreciate it. I took the time to peruse some other Wort postings after reading everyone's posts here and I'm rather happy with my current results. Yesterday I took my modified deck down to the local shop and went 2-1 against our best player in a 1 on 1 match so my 1st impression is that all of you are really helping me out!

Of my new list, there are only 3 cards I'm not crazy about although I think they're solid pics- Dralnu's Crusade, Mogg Fanatic and Ember Hauler. I'm thinking of removing the Crusade for a utility spell or card drawing engine of some sort. If I were to take out either of the goblins I'd probably take out the pair as a set. I'd like to maintain the number of goblins in my deck so I'd want to swap the two of them for another pair of goblins.

Cheers! :D
