1 Verdant Catacombs

The game plan is pretty simple: Ramp into Bobo as quick as possible, then start hucking lands. Obviously Life from the Loam is part of the package, as well as cycling and fetch lands plus Crucible of Worlds. Add some card draw with semi-combo pieces Abundance and Sylvan Library, stuff that works well with Bobo like Snake Umbra and Keen Sense, and you have yourself a deck! I'm not gonna lie, this deck sort of built itself.

The deck can have problems if Bobo gets tucked because it's a very Commander-centric deck. Also, if you stall out on mana early for some reason and can't get Bobo out quick, you need to look as meek and unassuming as possible and let other people take the heat.

The deck is obviously not traditional Gruul in that there usually aren't a ton of creatures to beat down with. Sometimes you do go nuts with Avenger of Zendikar and Scapeshift, but that's a rarity.

For more on this deck, as well as videos of it in action, go here: http://puremtgo.com/articles/conqueror- ... os-enraged

Questions, comments, suggestions, let me know!

Praetor's Counsel is a card I have had really good results with in my Borbor deck, might be worth trying to find a slot for it.

My Bobby Rage is even more dependent on the commander for land-chucking goodness (53ish lands, and plans B and C are Valakut+Boundless Realms and Wickerbough Elder beatdown), so I've found Spell Crumple and Hinder to be cards that absolutely must be played around.

Cavern of Souls is my answer to those particular cards, and I've found Expedition Map very useful for ensuring that I can get the right parts of my utility land packages. When it isn't getting Cavern, it is usually getting a cycling land to go along with Life from the Loam, Kessig Wolf Run, or Homeward Path.

Praetor's Counsel was definitely in consideration and one of the last cards I cut. I think that Creeping Rennaisance does a pretty decent imitation though. Still, I know there were times where I was dredging and wanted a bunch of stuff back. I guess putting it in for either Memory Jar or Garruk, Primal Hunter are possibilities.

You're right about the deck being very dependent on Bobo. I do have Gamble and Green Sun's Zenith just in case. Luckily he hasn't been Hindered yet (one game I had to play around one until someone drew it out but that's it). Cavern of Souls is a pretty good idea though, better than Vexing Shusher in my view. Instead of Expedition Map, have you thought about Crop Rotation or Sylvan Scrying? I'm thinking about taking out Explore for Sylvan Scrying with the addition of Cavern.

I also thought about upping the land count, but I did pretty well with 42 lands. I just would have a hard time cutting more cards for lands.

I think the order for them is Scrying>Map>Crop Rotation, but I didn't own a Scrying so I use the Map. I'm not a fan of Crop Rotation when you're trying to get up to 8+ mana.
