In my original version I had Voltaic Construct (to make infinite mana) and Myr Matrix plus a couple of other mana dumps, but I took them out. I also took out Planar Portal as just being too mana intensive. Really, I just wanted to bring the average CMC down to something respectable.

If you watch the vids in the link below you'll see that I sort of underutilize Karn, and that's my bad. But still, the deck was fun and did well. It obviously gets hosed to Austere Command, Merciless Eviction and the random Hellkite Tyrant, but it has enough card draw and recursion to help out with most problems.

Have you thought about running Not of this World? Bet noone would see that one coming.

I think I would definitely have it if I was running Kozilek as my Commander, since having a free Counterspell would be awesome. As is right now I would have relatively few creatures (and non-creature artifacts if I have Karn out I guess) that would make it free. The deck is pretty mana hungry with all the activated abilities so keeping up 7 mana is problematic.

Actually I could see another version of the deck using a +1/+1 counter and proliferate theme what would be good for the card too.

But it's better than Null Brooch. I'll have to keep track of how often my stuff gets targeted and what my mana situation is like and reassess.
