Derevi is female, actually.

EDIT: Sorry for contributing to the thread drift without actually contributing to your deck. Will try to think of on-topic response.

Is she? Was it written somewhere? Her breastplate seems rather...flat.

Don't worry about the direction of the thread. As with EDH games, fun in the first place :D Not contributing to the deck is a minor sin, redeemable by suggesting additional cards to cut in your next post. Ephara is a forgiving goddess-PRAISE BE TO HER AND LONG LIVE THE POLIS!!!

(BTW, is anyone else put off by the fact that even distinctly female deities have "God" instead of "Goddess" in their names?)

Yeah, she was referenced as "she" in multiple articles on the mothership. Also if you find larger art, you can see some breast-bumbs on the plate armor. It's just hard to see on the card itself. She's not stacked, which makes sense.
EDIT: actually the armor is flat as hell, no bumps at all - but from the official creative write-up of Derevi (on the mothership and in the insert included in the deck):

Quote:
Soaring above the battlefield, Derevi, Empyrial Tactician, uses cunning strategies to outsmart her enemies. She orchestrates the movements of her great army as they fight invaders who would lay waste to her peaceful lands. Derevi's keen eyes absorb a multitude of factors as she rapidly alters her plan to meet the changing conditions on the ground. Among her devoted followers, Derevi is called the greatest commander the Shards have ever seen. Her brilliant strategy routed the Grixis hordes at the Battle of Split Peak. Her clever diplomacy diverted the Esper Council in their plot against her. Derevi is disciplined but fair, and she evokes loyalty in her soldiers. Always the eye in the sky, this commander outmaneuvers her enemies time and time again.

Divinity transcends such mortal trappings as "gender", but the gods are nice enough to pick a representation that fits mortal viewpoints when appearing before us, so as not to alienate themselves from us completely. Our fragile brains need coddling and familiar concepts to function.

UPDATE!

-Plumeveil
-Ghostway
-Vanish into Memory
-Deathrender
-Meloku the Clouded Mirror
-Myr Turbine
-Lifeline
-Cloudstone Curio
-Dawn Charm
-Azorius Guildmage
-Dismantling Blow
-Wrath of God
-Rout
-Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar
-Enlightened Tutor
-Mirrorweave
-Glory
-Diluvian Primordial

+Stormscape Familiar
+Sunscape Familiar
+False Prophet
+Auramancer
+Dream Halls
+Sacred Mesa
+Apprentice Wizard
+Ashnod's Altar
+Venser's Journal
+Spawning Pit
+Luminarch Ascension
+Land Tax
+Curse of the Swine
+Flickerwisp
+Chamber of Manipulation
+Lavinia of the Tenth
+Illusionist's Gambit
+Rasputin Dreamweaver
+Kor Cartographer
+Walking Atlas

Main point of this update was to add more ramp and/or cost lowering effects, so I can cast most of the cards I end up with. Needs more instant recursion.

Two power stories:
1) I had Sunscape Familiar, Mnemonic Wall, Sun Titan and Talrand on the desk. At the end of each turn, I would cast Ghostly Flicker for 1U, blink the wall and the titan, get GF back, get back Terramorphic Expanse in my grave and use it and get a drake from Talrand. Next turn, I'd draw a card from Ephara and repeat. Before my turn, I'd dump all my remaining mana into this and get a few more drakes. My opponents didn't last long.

2) I cast Dream Halls. I followed by Jin-Gitaxias, paid for with a discard. Next turn, I wound up with Sakashima in my hand. Totally sweet 8)

Ok, can someone help clarify why this works for me? Is it because the triggered ability from Mnemonic Wall doesn't go on the stack until ghostly flicker has finished resolving, by which time, ghostly flicker is in the graveyard and is a legal target for the triggered ability?

That's exactly right :D

Also, some more testing went underway today, particularly sweet was Lavinia's debut. She came to town and started arresting people left and right. Also tricked my opponent with Thunderheads - Yay! Making tokens, reusing ETBs, bouncing and countering while Ephara keeps my hand filled. Looking good! :D

I'm strongly considering building an Ephara deck... I opened two of her at the prerelease. I already have three decks that are UW or UWx though.

Ætherling becomes u: draw a card every upkeep while still being a strong control finisher.

Fated Infatuation will work similarly to your Ghostly Flicker trick but will have broader options than it. Basically another copy of Cackling Counterparts but with the option to scry 2 which is awesome.

AEtherling doesn't sound bad, but right now, I wouldn't cut anything for it and I think I'd rather add other cards before it, if I find an opening.

A little scared of that triple U in Fated Infatuatuon's mana cost.

Played some 4-ways last week with fairly competitive versions of Saffi, R/G Wort and a weaker Sliver Overlord deck. Didn't win (Saffi did), but was the last man standing, managed to trick Saffi a few times with instant effects, but ultimately didn't manage to get rid of her threats permanently (I suppose I need more GY hate, maybe Rest in Peace).

So far, I find the deck to be a good multiplayer control. Ephara seems to draw just the right amount of cards to keep me in play, but not Paint-a-big-red-target-on-my-head much. I've already seen opponents skipping Ephara when choosing targets for Return to Dust(!) in favor of other menaces on the board :)

P.S.: I'm struggling with Gather Specimens at the moment. While I love the effect, the card feels too overcosted. I really hope they make a cheaper version of it someday. With Desertion costing 3UU, I can see it being the same, maybe even 2UU or 1UUU. That would see a ton of play, IMO, against all those Living Deaths and Avengers roaming around.

I like the deck, it looks like a blast to play. The only recommendation I would add would be to sneak in a Conjurer's Closet. You have a ton of creatures "come into play" triggers and the closet lets you zap them over and over for only 5 mana. Also has the added benefit of any temporary creature controls become permanent.

(stand-by for cross-thread-referencing!)

I noticed over in the tarpit thread you mentioned that you had problems vs. Saffi 'cause you didn't have enough GY-hate... one option that'll do a lot for this build is Stonecloaker.

Angel of Finality is ok too (she's just not as flashy).

Already have that :D

She's a creature, thus she's a cantrip with Ephara, so she has a chance, but I also need to assess whether I need this kind of effect at instant speed, like from Mnemonic Nexus, Stream of Consciousness or Honor the Fallen. Although I assume I can flicker her instantly...

The only ones worth mentioning are Reliquary Tower, Academy Ruins, Emeria, Ghost Quarter, Halimar Depths and Terrain Generator.

UPDATE 2/28/2014:

-Auramancer (not much for her to do here)
-Dissipate
-Spawning Pit (I found out saccing isn't really this deck's thing)
-Gather Specimens (too expensive)
-Ashnod's Altar (see Spawning Pit)
-Wall of Omens (doesn't do enough)

+Omniscience (with Dream Halls already in, I might as well go all the way)
+Final Judgment (BEGONE! NO DEATH TRIGGERS/RECURSION FOR YOU!!!)
+Basalt Monolith (accel)
+Helm of Awakening (ditto)
+Temporal Aperture (testing...could potentially accel/turn Ephy on...and she likes that  )
+Conjurer's Closet (never actually played one before, so testing on the recommendations of many)

Also, I'm going to my LGS today to take a look at the foil Ephara they've just got. Not happy about the 30$ price tag, but I've always thought that she must look gorgeous in foil, so if that's true, I might just give in :) And I shouldn't have much trouble selling the original one, too
