Wow, caltrops with deathtouch is pretty strong! LOL!

I think spine of ish sah probably helps. Its an MVP in karn as a recurring creature. 7/7 vindicate! Probably just as good here, except that you probably have less mana production than a Karn deck. But you do get to run master transmuter and arcum dagsson to cheat it into play.

Love it. Dropped Staff of Domination for Spine.

Ditched Strix, Dross Scorpion, Relic as well. Need to fill those gaps.

I'm thinking Torpor Orb may need to be in here.

I do, however, want to make it a strong combo/control with an Aggro finish.

I like this list, or at least, I think it's a great illustration of what's fun to do with this new general. However, I'm not sure if this quote makes any sense. By which I mean, I don't know of any decks in (real) magic formats that try to combo out, and then kill with creature beats. Usually combo'ing out wins by itself, or makes everyone concede. Even things that aren't infinite might prompt concessions, if they're just really strong value combos like, I dunno, Ertai, wizard adept + seedborn muse.

So what I find sort of incongruous here are the anthems. I think that's the part of this deck that supports a beat-down plan without really playing into the synergy provided by the general. I'm willing to be proven wrong, of course, but I wonder how well this strategy will play out - anthems without token swarms? If I were building this deck, I'd drop the anthems and the beats for more control or lock pieces that provide synergy with the general.

Some thoughts : maybe stuff that kills creatures, which can be abused by the general to also kill artifacts? something like royal assassin or avatar of woe. What about transmogrifying licid? Does that help at all? Where are the big sorceries like open the vaults and wrath of god? Or little ones like fabricate? I think this deck is a good opportunity to run some fun sacrifice outlets, like priest of yawgmoth. How about vedalken archmage or grand architect? If lifeline is the star of the deck, maybe dromar's attendant?

Edit: got it! Ashnod's Transmogrant + Pestilence Demon + Sydri = Profit!

I totally get what you're saying. I wasn't even sure if this was a "combo" deck. Just seemed like strong synergy to me but I've seen interactions like these listed as combo. So combo means "If this goes off, I win," infinite or not?

I only have a few anthems and really only one is JUST an athem, the others have something else attached. I thought I had enough ways to clear creatures out. Most of my artifacts are really small so they're not getting through for much damage. I figured the anthems would be a good boost to get some damage through

I'll ditch:

Spear of Heliod
Darksteel Juggernaut
Bident of Thassa

Add:

Grand Architect
Fabricate
Open the Vaults
Vedalken Archmage
Crystal Shard

Yeah, I now see the synergy/appeal of something like darksteel juggernaut with sydri: a big indestructible lifelink/deathtouch dude crashing into the endzone every turn. And the bident of thassa providing value when your opponents decline to block. That could be fun. But it could be a lot of work for not much gain if the bident isn't around. Also march of the machines + bident of thassa and swing with a ton of dudes seems pretty fun. But I guess the bident really makes that work; without that, i'm not sure how well it works. I guess I could see going in that direction: a bunch of token makers / swarm critters and then the bident, coastal piracy, larceny, necropolis regeant, stuff like that?

Probably a couple different ways the deck could go...

Cheerios in the Legacy format usually plays its whole deck out in combo, and in my kooky version of it Beastmaster Ascension acts as a possible win condition. It usually gets a laugh and an eye roll, but no one is usually expecting to get beat with 12+ 5/6 creatures in Legacy on my second turn.

Then again, they do usually scoop before I actually deal the damage.

Anyway, with a Sydri deck I might be tempted to try using cards like Portcullis, Noetic Scales, and Ward of Bones to keep the board clean and play more non-creature artifacts. Since nothing you play will be creatures when they enter the battlefield or during your upkeep, you won't have to worry about it. But that's just a thought I had, and goes in an entirely different direction...

Why no Prototype Portal? And if you want to go aggro, Sharding Sphinx might be a good pick.

I've had a bad time with prototype portal. the one time I got to use it I had sol ring imprinted :D

Wow, Portcullis and Ward of Bones would be VERY evil. I'm going to find spot for Ward of Bones at least.

I'm not going all out agro, just a small aggro finish to the whole thing.

Ditched Counterspell for Ward of Bones

I noticed you have Junk Diver but not Myr Retriever. The myr costs one less so it might be a good replacement, or you can run both.
Mycosynth Lattice can let you kill everyone's lands for really cheap but it can also lose you a few friends really fast.
Sculpting Steel could be nice if you need a copy of any of your artifacts.
You can run artifact lands to pump up your artifact count too, but that leaves you extra vulnerable to Vandalblast and the like.

The only reason I picked Junk Diver is the fact it can chump block a flyer.

I had Lattice in the list but it was too horrible and evil.

Sculpting Steel would be good. I'm not sure what I'll swap out for it. Wayfarer's Bauble maybe.
