So I wanted to go with the treefolk theme, but keep some Rock elements. Some of the creature choices may seem goofy, but I had my reasons (Leotau and Outrider are in as early drops, Fendeep Summoner is in because I wanted at least 1 mono-Black treefolk) but it worked out pretty good. It's not perfect, but I had fun with it.

I've only ever played against 1 Doran deck; a buddy was running a voltron build with Sword of the Paruns, some assorted shields, and some support guys like Leonin Abunas. (I think he added Palisade Giant and some extra damage prevention equipments too; haven't seen him in a while.) He also ran Tangle Angler, which was terrifyingly. I wanted him to put in Ensouled Scimitar; I dunno if he ever tried it though.

Rhox Faithmender and Trostani seem like they'd be pretty cool here, even if they get you away from the treefolk theme.

I think there are more toughness pumps that you could play; Tower Defense seems good, and Blessed Orator might be ok. Not sure if you're into the janky build arounds, but there's also Builder's Blessing and/or Castlepaired with Hold the Gates (and some gates!).

Yeah, I mean you don't have to stick to treefolk if you want to do the "toughness matters" theme. You point to a lot of good creatures that have high toughness, or give your team high toughness. But since I wanted it to be pretty treefolky, I couldn't fit a lot of those in. Also, I wanted to make sure that the cards were good even if Doran wasn't in play. The one shot toughness boosters don't really do much unless 1) Doran is out there, and 2) I have a decent sized team. I was happy with my 2 main toughness boosters, Spidersilk Armor and Oathsworn Giant, because they did something more than just boost toughness.

I've seen several Doran builds with Gates and Walls and other creatures with defender, along with Rolling Stones, but I just didn't want to do that since it's a little too pillow-fort for my tastes. Interesting ideas though.
