Hippies & Brutes is a mono-green tribal elf commander deck, with Omnath as general and a couple of heavy stompers. It has two primary winning strategies; hippie overload and stomping fatties, and works well for both commander and standard play. It ramps a lot of mana, which Omnath stores for future use. I would like to sharpen the deck further, so I'm grateful for all suggestions you can give me, both on what you would add and what you would cut.

I feel like this could get a LOT stronger.
I would probably focus less on small mana guys, and think about getting extra lands into play. The guys are just so vulnerable comparatively. ex. Skyshroud Claim, Burgeoning, Exploration, Gaea's Touch, etc.

I run an Omnath deck, and it is linked in my signature. Check it out, it might give you some ideas.

Other thoughts (not in my list):

Umbral Mantle - this is amazing with Priest or Archdruid
Joraga Treespeaker - much better mana guy if you still want to go that way
Jagged-Scar Archers - huge elf that kills fliers seems good
Elvish Guidance - more huge mana

Winter Orb should go: It and Vhorinclex are very impopular, and it hinders Omnath's growth.

Vedalken Orrery, and Yeva, Nature's Herald both allow you to re-cast Omnath immediately after it's destruction as well as winding canyons. More creature search, obviously: survival of the fittest or fauna shaman

I'd remove coat of arms: you run into a token deck spamming soldier tokens, it'll be dead weight in your hand. Asceticism is a handy alternative. Tree of Redemption? I'd rather have Brooding Saurian, (and a homeward path).

Elves are vulnerable, but they're also the theme of the deck. The small ones, Llanowar, Fyndhorn & Arbor don't produce as much as Priest & Archdruid, but they do speed up my start, which is relatively important to me as I also play the deck in standard format.

Quite interesting. I think I have to get hold of Vow of Wildness, Lignify and Primal Command. They look fun! :)

Will this work as an infinite mana generator with 4 or more elves?

Quote:
Joraga Treespeaker - much better mana guy if you still want to go that way

I have had a look at her before and I'm not really sure. You have to invest 9 mana before you get any good return from it. Usually the number of elves on the battlefield is somewhat limited as my friends have fear of elves and work hard to not have them spiral out of control.

Jagged-Scar Archers - huge elf that kills fliers seems good

Great card! I'll order it promtly! I do have some problems with fliers.

Quote:
Elvish Guidance - more huge mana

I like it this one too. I'm not sure whether to add the enchantment or Wirewood Channeler though.

I'll take it out then. It have worked well in the past as my elves have supplied me with mana while my opponents starved, and I have considered Vorinclex, but I can understand the hate. I've also considered adding Hall of Gemstones or Primal Order (which I own) for EDH games, but decided against it.

I'll get hold of Yeva and Canyons, they seem pretty useful to avoid huge mana burns. How about Aluren? Would that work with Omnath in EDH?

The shaman will be added then!

I'll cut the tree and think about the coat. I'm trying to do as much as possible with elves and Eladamri have some of the asceticism effect so I'll wait with that one.

Thank you both for your great tips! :)

Hippies & Brutes have received and update:

Winding Canyons replaced a Forest.
Yeva, Nature's Herald replaced Elvish Visionary.
- Both of the above complements Omnath, Locus of Mana and helps to prevent mana-burn.

Natural Order replace Pattern of Rebirth.
Worldspine Wurm replaced Pelakka Wurm.
Riftsweeper replaced Elvish Lyrist.
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger replaced Winter Orb
- All of the changes to the better (I think) between cards with somewhat the same abilities. I know Vhorinclex is a bastard, but my friends deserve him. ;)

Jagged-Scar Archersreplaced Wirewood Hivemaster
- I get a lot of flying heat, angels, vampires, drakes, etc. Any suggestions for more anti-aircraft defenses?

Scavenging Ooze replaced Birthing Pod
- Needed some more graveyard hate, and this one looked nice.

Vigor replaced Tree of Redemption.
- Tree of Redemption have haven't saved me yet, so it was time to get rid of it.

Beast Within replaced Urban Burgeoning.
- Urban Burgeoning was a mistake, too difficult to get the combo going. The Beast looked useful.

So, that's the first big improvement. Any other recommendations are welcomed gratefully! :)

Umbral Mantle does in fact lead to infinite mana.

Anti-flying
Gravity Well
Silklash Spider
Spidersilk Armor
Downdraft
Raking Canopy
Storm Front

I kind of like the ones with activated abilities. You shouldn't have any mana issues anyway, so their cost is negligible.

No Overwhelming Stampede?

Aluren works beautifully with Omnath. The Big Green's CMC is always 3.

Nobody likes Vorinclex and it should never be played by anyone ever. :P

Doubling Cube ramps the 'Nath
Kamahl, Fist of Krosa loves Omnath's mana! Multiple Overruns on Omnath is usually needed to push his general damage through
Genesis Wave is fun with all of Omnath's mana
Symbiotic Wurm fuels Gaea's Cradle and Kamahl's overrun's can make an army
Vernal Bloom doubles forests
mana reflection doubles forests
caged sun doubles forests
All those Elfs and no Elvish Piper?
Chameleon Colossus is technically an Elf
Momentous Fall on a giant Omnath with Aluren out = good times in draw land

keep in mind that Coat of Arms works for your opponents too. My Soldier deck loves it when other people play it!

Thats all I got off the top of my brain.

Mana burn is still in magic?

Nope....

Your running seedborn muse....you seriously need to get ahold of Patron of the Orochi. With both them them on the field you get nasty very very quickly ( this can be done with Tooth and Nail ) . Which makes cards like Overwhelming Stampede very good with Omnath.

And there's nothing wrong with Vorinclex. Yes everyone hates him, yes everyone will give you smug looks, but he dies to ....o yea everything zzzzz.

Consider Asceticism for protection.

Playing Hall of Gemstone doesn't make you a douche. Honestly its a good way to help end the game ( aside from overruning or playing something like Helix Pinnacle )

Yeah, but the problem with Vorinclex is that no one wants to be the one to pull that trigger, because their lands stay tapped even if they kill him. It's pretty high on the douche-o-meter, but undeniably strong.

These suggestions may be a little bland, but what about Genesis Wave or Craterhoof Behemoth? And surely Loxodon Warhammer would be great on Omnath!

Thank you for many great suggestions. Just got some new cards for "Hippies & Brutes" delivered and I'm waiting for a second shipment which will add more of the suggested cards.

Out goes:
Tranquil Thicket - never ever cycled that land.
Mosswort Bridge - annoys me as it usually only hides away a tiny, tiny elf.
Mindslaver - great fun, but not really fitting the theme of the deck, so I'll move it to another deck.
Eldrazi Monument - another good and useful card, but again not really fitting the theme.
Night Soil - Scavenging Ooze does the trick well enough.

In goes:
Helix Pinnacle - The elves may win without ever even leaving their smoking forest!
Nissa's Chosen - Seems natural to have with Nissa Revane in the deck.
Elvish Piper - I'm no fan of bagpipes, but he's been recommended so many times I'll try him.
Fauna Shaman - looks like a great elf to add to the tribe!
Extraplanar Lense - Mana doubler, with a bunch of snow forests on the way.

Two new problems I'm facing: global sweeps & damage/counters. There's a white angel deck with Elesh Norn as commander that has started to brutally massacre my elves. The deck has several global creature sweeps and Elesh Norn's -2/-2 is brutal to take. Any specific suggestions to meet this new challenge?

Cards I would cut:
Dungrove Elder: He's a big hunk of fat, but he can be chumped WAY too easily.
Khalni Hydra: Ditto, except in reverse. He's just undercosted fat, and not that fat at that (say that 5 times fast)
Extraplanar Lens: I've never liked it. It costs you a land and can boost your opponents. If artifact destruction is uncommon in your area, then go ahead, but I highly dislike the massive risk in it. I'd suggest Mana Reflection, Caged Sun, or at worst Gauntlet of Power.
Llanowar, Fyndhorn, and Arbor Elf: you've already been told about them. I second Joraga Treespeaker; my buddy runs it in his elf deck and it works great for him. I'm also surprised to not see Farhaven Elf in here.

Elesh Norn is brutal to this kind of deck. Door of Destinies is the only card that springs to mind that also synergizes with your deck.

Sweepers.. I get good work out of Spearbreaker Behemoth and Asceticism.
