I have a Saffi Eriksdotter deck that's known in my meta as broken enough that I don't pull it out without a good reason anymore (e.g., someone else is insisting on playing a bullshit combo oops-I-win deck ... or someone pissed me off last game and I just really need to WIN once). I experimented with making it less broken and it wasn't fun anymore, so I decided screw it, I'll make it as mean as possible and leave it on the shelf most of the time.

Some points:
- Usual win-con is Melira + Blasting Station + any persist dude.
- Birthing Pod is a focus of the deck, so creatures are organized by CMC and I tried to have a balanced number at each CMC.
- This is probably obvious, but the point of the deck is recursion, recursion, and more recursion, plus protecting my dudes on the field.

So, I just reworked this with the goal of going broken-er, and would like comments on effectiveness/other things I should include/creatures that would be more effective at each CMC.

You could consider running academy rector

which tutors into play -broken mechanic- enchantments (shards,Asceticism) you already run, or cards like:

Martyr's Bond
Luminarch Ascension
parallax wave

Additionally for wanting to combo out on melira you should probably run creature into play tutors
Chord of Calling
Green Sun's Zenith

For having so many awesome creatures, your begging to get bribery; consider
homeward path

Survival of the Fittest
Sylvan Tutor
Worldly Tutor
Juniper Order Ranger
Triskelion
Loyal Retainers
Altar of Dementia
Grand Abolisher
Tooth and Nail
Primal Command

Yup , tutoring is good redundant engines for sac'ing and looping are good, and by good I mean it's easy to make an EDH deck that folks don't like playing against...

Mirror Entity counts as a sacrifice outlet for Lark loops. Activate it for zero a couple million times.

I'm surprised you run Mossbridge Troll but not Elesh Norn. Norn is fantastic against tokens and decks using a lot of utility dorks.

EDIT: Sun Titan + Fiend Hunter + a sac outlet is infinite. Works with Saffi too, but Fiend Hunter is not bad.

You are going for the heavy life gain route. I build my Saffi deck to be a little more controllish. I guess that is more a taste or style thing...

I am seconding Aggro_zombies. Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite is great creature control. Most of the cards odit suggests I play myself. I do not like Juniper order Ranger so much, I have Melira, Sylvok Outcast in that spot.

I feel Triskelion works better with black and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed.

Nevertheless lets talk about the direction you want to take your deck. As far as Saffi decks go, I am aware of Aggro-zombies and mine. The cards that both of us play should probably be in the deck. But again, lets talk about it ;)

I need to find my physical deck and update this with changes I've made since posting this ... among other things I am trying to figure out how to make space for Genesis and/or Glory at 5 CMC, and I added Defense of the Heart.

I don't have Elesh Norn in there partly because I hate praetors with the fire of a thousand suns (really, even in a dickish deck like this one) and partly because we don't HAVE one. My husband and I own a game store and I borrow from inventory to build decks, but even at $20 we still can't keep that Phyrexian bitch in stock. :|

Also, I can't figure out why there isn't an Austere Command in this list. There probably should be.

Austere Command is definitely a good card. It gets you out of a pickle very often because it does what you need it to do when you draw it. My only problem with it is just that: "when you draw it". With no way of tutoring it up I rely more on my creatures to do the work for me because those I can tutor up. I played Austere command in my list for a while and it was always good when I drew it. The problem was that I drew it too inconsistently and not at the right time I needed it. You can speed up finding it by drawing with Skullclamp or Sylvan Library or digging with Scroll rack. At the end of the day you always will need to find it "naturally".

As for your updates, please post. I am always on the lookout for cards that I overlooked. :)

As for Elesh norn, well at some point I cut her but quickly saw the mistake in doing that... One of the worst things you can do in GW is to Survival of the Fittest, Elesh norn, then with her Loyal Retainers, play retainers and bring elesh norn back. With mana rocks it is possible to do this turn 3. This is not pretty at all.......

Yeah, and Survival of the Fittest and Loyal Retainers (holy hell, $150?!) are both a bit out of my price range, although I can certainly see the appeal. (Also, broken decks are one thing, but I try not to play with uber-expensive cards, as most people around here don't have them and it seems a bit rude.)

If you can't fix it, then break it :D

Nice deck, I hadn't heard of that commander before.. interesting. I'm building a Melira modern deck and would love to turn it into an edh deck. looks like someone beat me to it!

I can see that. I do not own a Loayal Retainers myself. I just wanted to point out the possibility, since you wanted broken things ;)

I do own a Loyal Retainers and it's not that broken. The earlier you get an Elesh Norn, the fewer creatures she murders, and the more likely she is to eat a removal spell. The Retainers route does save you a mana even if you have to Survival up both creatures (six mana versus seven), but there aren't a ton of other legendary creatures this deck wants.

Elesh Norn is nice because many of the creatures in a Saffi deck end up being small value guys that don't attack very well, and she makes all of them into legitimate threats. Not using her means you will need to rely on a combo win more often or load up the high end of your curve with beef.

I like her as a backup plan, but she's not that necessary.

The down side of this deck is it tends to be unkillable without being able to beat face, either, which means there are games when it just SITS there forever being unkillable and trying to dig out its oops-I-win combo.

Serra Avatar is one of the recent additions, and I hope it makes it more plausible that I will be able to win games just by swinging, which hasn't usually (ever?) happened with this deck in the past.

Consider a Stoneforge Mystic package, then, or perhaps Juniper Order Ranger. There's also Selesnya Guildmage.

EDIT: Updated the list linked in my sig.
