Comments about my deck
I mostly play 3 or 4 player free for all.
I don't like to use infinite combos, mass land destruction, infect, or annihilator.
I usually play Mayael mid/late game when my hand is empty of threats and, hopefully, most of my opponent's removal has been used up.
I play with very few artifacts and enchantments so I can hate on them and not lose much.

I'm surprised you're running so few fatties, but maybe the fact that you're playing them later helps you deal with that (thinned deck of lands).

I've retooled my deck and started running 24-25 fatties (which feels so little to me), but only because I'm running:
- Scroll Rack (which you have)
- Sylvan Tutor, Worldly Tutor to cheat the Mayael trigger with a known fatty
- SDT to peek at the top three to see what I'm going to get (at least in the top 3)
- Sylvan Library to keep fatties at the top of the deck on my draw steps

It seems like you might need help to hit your Mayael triggers.

I had tried to go the 'few artifact/enchantment' route and added cards like Fracturing Gust to combat my competative meta, but I found that readding Sword of Feast and Famine and Sword of Fire and Ice were too powerful, so I kept that route. With so many fatties, ramp, and lands taking up slots, I didn't have a lot of free slots. I'm curious to see how the artifact/enchantment hate goes for you.

I'm also running a LOT more ramp than you. I find this deck is so hungry for mana, that I need it. It's also nice to not have to rely on Mayael to cast the fatties.

Thanks for your feedback Shmebula.

I started out with a lot fewer fatties. The deck has evolved a lot over time. I think it began with about 19 fatties, but I had several planeswalkers back then. I've since removed all planeswalkers in favor of creatures. I do use thinning/stacking to help hit with Mayael.

I'm strongly considering adding Stalking Vengeance (replacing Warstorm Surge) and Greater Gargadon (not sure what to replace) to up my fat count to 25.

I don't use Sylvan Tutor or Worldly Tutor for a variety of reasons:
1) card disadvantage
2) already have Primal Command
3) have lots of deck manipulation and redundancy
4) want to keep # of tutors down to make games varied

I do miss with Mayael once in a while, and it's really frustrating when I do. Of course, I've had some really amazing spins with her too. Once I was being attacked by Abyssal Persecutor and I flipped Baneslayer Angel. That's part of the fun of Mayael, the randomness.

Don't own SoFaF or SoFaI so never tried them. If I get them though, they'll probably go in my Karador utility creature deck.

How much ramp are you running?

I count 7-8 in my deck depending on whether you count Primeval Titan.
1) Sol Ring
2) Darksteel Ingot
3) Cultivate
4) Kodama's Reach
5) Recross the Paths
6) Krosan Tusker
7) Oracle of Mul Daya
8) Primeval Titan

I hear you about Worldly/Sylvan Tutors being card disadvantage, but I view them as adding a single mana to Mayael's activation to get the exact creature I want from my deck. I also HATE wiffing when I use her, so the only way I could get below 27 or so was to add the two tutors, SDT, and Scroll Rack.

I'm running around 14 or so ramp spells. I don't usually count PT since he comes down later. In order to compete with the fast, competitive meta that I run her in, I also added a Mana Crypt recently.

One way to pad your creature count without totally impacting your curve is to add Eternal Dragon and Valley Rannet. They help you avoid completely wiffing with Mayael, but also give you an early out if you draw them early on. I recently cut the Rannet, but I run ED. they aren't ramp, but they help give you consistent land drops. They're also nice with shocks or duals.

14 ramp spells? F**k balls! That's a lot of ramp. I would have to eschew a lot of control to include that much ramp. I would say your deck leans more towards straight aggro.

I don't like Eternal Dragon or Valley Rannet because they can only get plains or forests and mountains. I prefer Krosan Tusker.

Yeah, I know. People in my play group think I should play more. Believe me, in that group it's necessary. Without ramp, you're dead in the water and way too far behind.

I like those guys because they give me shocklands, rather than a basic land. With so many cards with double or triple color in the mana cost, I find color fixing to be incredibly important.

I just looked at my old build from my decklist link in my sig and wow my deck has changed incredibly since then. I need to get the updated list out.

True, I hadn't thought of that. But I only have shocklands. Perhaps if I had duals too. Also, they don't ramp per say, they ensure you don't miss land drops.

It seems ramp has run rampant in your meta. Perhaps it's time to infuse some mass ld.

14 ramp spells? F**k balls! That's a lot of ramp.

Yeah, I know. People in my play group think I should play more. Believe me, in that group it's necessary. Without ramp, you're dead in the water and way too far behind.

I just thought of something Shmebula, your playgroup and others like it is the reason Primeval Titan got banned.

Shame on you!

I'm just hoping my new judge foil Mana Crypt doesn't meet the same fate!

Judge foil Mana Crypts are selling on ebay for about $60. I thought it would be more.

Recent deck edits

9/30/12 Dragonlair Spider -> Sigarda, Host of Herons
Want to test out Sigarda over Dragonlair. I never liked the feel of my deck pumping out puny tokens. Sigarda saves me from sac effects which is the reason I included Dragonlair and she has evasion.

9/30/12 Marshall's Anthem -> Moldgraf Monstrosity
Moldgraf Monstrosity seems like a good replacement for Marshall's Anthem. I might need another sac outlet though. Considering Greater Gargadon.

9/30/12 Plains -> Slayers' Stronghold
Slayers' Stronghold. My mana base has improved enough that I think I can handle the loss of another colored mana source. Also, during the evolution of my deck I have reduced the requirement I placed on myself of half basic lands. Now running only 15 basics. With the addition of Slayers' Stronghold I'm also considering replacing either Lightning Greeves or Swiftfoot Boots.

9/30/12 Mosswort Bridge -> Gavony Township
Gavony Township for Mosswort Bridge. After testing Mosswort Bridge, it seemed like too much win more. I never gave Gavony Township a chance before. I want to see how it works for me.

9/30/12 Pure // Simple -> Faith's Reward
Pure // Simple wasn't holding its weight and I have a lot of other artifact removal. I've yet to cast Faith's Reward but I look forward to the look of shock from my opponents as I lay it down post wrath :)

9/23/12 Mirri's Guile -> Sensei's Divining Top
SDT replacing Mirri's Guile. I've had the top for a long time. I was trying to be original and use something different. Decided my group is too cutthroat and I needed to upgrade. Also, the Top is rarely destroyed so it's almost never a lost card.

9/23/12 Warstorm Surge -> Stalking Vengeance
Stalking Vengeance for Warstorm Surge. Having Warstorm Surge in my hand always made me regret casting a creature before it was in play b/c it amounted to lost value. Stalking Vengeance is a hit for Mayael and punishes wraths. Also, another reason to include another sac outlet. Currently only have High Market.

9/23/12 Avenger of Zendikar -> Dragonlair Spider
Dragonlair Spider for Avenger of Zendikar. Avenger never really performed for me. I think he would fit better in a B/G/X deck with more sac outlets. I'll probably try him in Karador. Also, Dragonlair is better defensively since he has reach and more toughness. I know it's odd to include this change since Dragonlair is now replaced by Sigarda but I wanted to include the reasoning for Dragonlair's inclusion.

I'm surprised of the Gavony Township inclusion. How often are you willing to drop 5 mana (4 plus the land) to pump your monsters by 1? Seems like the wrong deck to me.

I'm also shocked that you'd cut Avenger of Zendikar. That guy's a beast.

I ended up cutting both of these from my build. I disliked that Stalking didn't trigger on his own, and the Surge seemed too slow.

I also don't think I'd cut either of the boots for Slayers' Stronghold. The shroud/hexproof is really good for your general, and the effective equip cost is WAY less than the land (3 mana - 2+tapping the land).

re: Gavony Township. I still need to test it out. But I figured that there would be times when I have sufficient board presence and I wouldn't need to cast more creatures but would want something to spend my mana on. It also has synergy with Woodfall Primus.

re: AoZ. Like I said, I think he'll be a better fit in Karador.

re: Stalking Vengeance. Yeah I wish he did damage when he died too, sort of like of Butcher of Malakir triggers his own ability. However, he still does more on his own than Warstorm Surge. At least I can attack with Stalking Vengeance. And haste can come in handy once in a while, especially against planeswalkers.

Hey thats a very nice mayael list you have there. Here are my thoughts on it:

I'd like to start off with karoo lands. How do these benefit your deck? It just seems to me that like these slow you down. You'd better off running something like Jungle Shrine

Kher Keep ... why? I don't see any synergies with your deck. Maybe if you had an aura shards (which is surprisingly absent from your list when you say your meta is enchant/artifact heavy) it would mean 1 artifact/enchant destruction per turn.

Twilight Shepherd's ability seems too situational for me. Seems to me like most of the time it ends up being a vanilla flying body.

Also, I've been reading shmebula's suggestions and his deck/meta seem to be similar to mine. You should really consider Eternal Dragon. Just test it out and if doesn't do the job you can always cut it. Getting consistent land drops is a good start towards a reliable deck and makes sure you're not 1 mana off of a great play.
