Happened to drop Selvala's Stampede last night.

Mmmyup, it was a blowout.

Had three cards in hand. Voted Wild, everyone else voted Free. (4 player game)

Dropped the three creatures in my hand, Sigarda, Host of Herons, Blazing Archon, and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight. Flipped cards off the top until I hit Colossus of Akros with enough mana left over to Monstrify him.

Mayael do what Mayael do :)

Selvala's Stampede is a freaking house.

I'd play it even if all it said was "For each opponent, put a permanent card from your hand onto the battlefield." It's better than that.

It's a Mayael activation that never misses, plus that.

Only drawback is that it's a sorcery, but I'm not going to complain. It (and Regal Behemoth) have made their way into my version of the deck from Conspiracy.

Now, to wait for Kaladesh.

The question to ask is not whether a card is good, the question is whether you could play something that leads to better results.

You've just shown your opponents how badly you can hurt them with the card, what will be the net result of this? Could something less obvious also have let you win? It would for example seem that some mass removal and just playing those creatures could've also easily lead to a win.

Last week I played against somebody gunslinging, he's a decent guy, but unfortunately not as good a deck builder as he thinks he is. I didn't go all out, but I did bring a capable deck that I guessed was probably well beyond what he could put up. We were supposed to play a match for a booster and I could do a quest for more boosters (at a cost). I managed to accomplish his most difficult quest, he conceded the rest of the match and then asked me to help him with his deck. Later on they were discussing making quests specifically for me that would be far more challenging or letting me gunsling instead. My "mistake" had been to bring a deck that far overpowered what he could build and as a result next time things will likely be more difficult for me, either because he grabs a better deck or because he otherwise makes things more challenging. I fear that the net result of playing Stampede will be similar in that it will make future games that much more difficult. Ideally you want to just barely win so that you have an easier time repeating that feat in future games (of course this is only relevant in a regular group).

Normally I would agree with that and I tend to follow similar principles with other decks, but, this is Mayael. You have a deck with very large creatures with matching casting costs. I suppose it depends on the type of Mayael deck you're playing but most Mayael decks I've seen have a control element to them. Something that gets control pieces down faster seems good to me.

Personally, I wouldn't cast this if all it would do is make me a bigger target. Consider Stampede as Wrath recovery or that last nail in the coffin for someone. It can give you an edge if you're playing against a game that's toxic to creatures. It can drop an answer in your hand or if you're top deck sculpting. A spell like this really shouldn't be used to further an already decent board state.

This is really hitting the nail on the head. It's a quicker way to get out from a recent Wrath of God. I like that it guarantees one creature to the board (in a deck where every creature you have is "good" or better) and lets you drop things that clog up your hand (like a Warstorm Surge when you've been on the defensive all game and haven't had time to get 'extra value out of it) as a bonus.

I have a feeling the people (like me) who like Sneak Attack in a deck like this would be attracted to the Stampede. Sometimes, it will just win you the game, on the spot. It will never lose you the game, as it always creates presence (save for if you're playing Dust Elemental or Shivan Wurm I guess). When you've got big creatures that are inherently synergistic, getting them in multiples is backbreaking to an opponent.

My concern is that it will lose you future games for being in your deck.

I've also never really felt a need for better Wrath recovery.

That's only a concern pi if your sole outcome is to win as many games as possible.

It's not only a good card, but also just a satisfying fun card to slam down on the table.

You are and have always been a extreme lean towards efficiency however :)

Stampede just helps me ooze out my inner Timmy in such a satisfying way and helps me win in a more memorable way as well, even if it means I might win a few games less because I represent a bigger threat.

I don't actually even worry about being a bigger threat either. My meta rarely has Mayael on top as the number 1 threat at the table, ever. She is to inherently fair.

Fair enough, though if we're not discussing with winning as our goal in mind, how do we evaluate cards?

I can certainly see playing it for fun or to generate awesome moments. I personally prefer winning through synergy, small gains adding up, a little diplomacy here and there, basically making many small things come together. Actually winning is not even an important part of that for me, though usually everything coming together should lead to a win. Of course other things excite other people and please don't think I would want to reduce your fun. For me though this card doesn't fit well with what I prefer and knowing the people I might play with it does not seem like it would increase my chances at winning either.

I will be playing in an EDH tournament on the 12th of November. I want Mayael available as an option, so I just spent some time reviewing the new cards and considering what to add and remove. I'm presenting this as and early version to ask you guys for your thoughts.

Well, best of luck (if you believe in that sort of thing). I'm not sure there's anything we could really suggest at this point. Let us know how it went.

Sometime soon, I'll try and post a look at the current iteration of my deck.

Thanks! I'll definitely let you guys know.

I just put the new cards in the deck and goldfished a bit. I was worried that the lower land count might be an issue, but I haven't had difficulty so far. I think that of the cards I took out I'll miss Magmatic Force the most as it does offer some pretty good utility.

Kazuul is an interesting choice. I may have to give him a whirl.

I've had him in since he was released. He's very castable and given the choices between giving you tokens or paying mana and just going elsewhere opponents tend to go elsewhere. If they do come your way he's still a decent blocker too. Later in the game he won't be your first choice for putting into play, but still better than missing. I would've guessed Rage Nimbus would be a more surprising choice, though he's in for similar reasons.

No new creatures for me from C16. But I do plan to replace Return to Dust with Sylvan Reclamation.

I kind of like the big indestructible centaur. Wrath of God effects are never bad- -getting to "swing then wrath" and keep my guys alive is even crazier. I'm not holding out hope that I'll get him in, but we'll see.
