I have always wanted to make a deck around Rith, the Awakener. And here is an attempt at it.

Before I will explain the problems of the deck, here is the list.

// Commander
1 Rith, the Awakener

// 40 Lands
1 Elfhame Palace
1 Evolving Wilds
12 Forest
1 Gavony Township
1 Graypelt Refuge
1 Grove of the Guardian
1 Gruul Turf
1 Kazandu Refuge
1 Khalni Garden
1 Krosan Verge
5 Mountain
6 Plains
1 Razorverge Thicket
1 Rupture Spire
1 Selesnya Guildgate
1 Selesnya Sanctuary
1 Shivan Oasis
1 Stirring Wildwood
1 Terramorphic Expanse
1 Transguild Promenade

// 12 Enchantments
1 Asceticism
1 Assemble the Legion
1 Fertile Ground
1 Fires of Yavimaya
1 Growing Ranks
1 Intangible Virtue
1 Oblivion Ring
1 Pollenbright Wings
1 Quest for Renewal
1 Rancor
1 Trace of Abundance
1 Warstorm Surge

// 7 Instants
1 Chorus of Might
1 Druid's Deliverance
1 Eyes in the Skies
1 Harrow
1 Massive Raid
1 Rootborn Defenses
1 Trostani's Judgment

// 1 Planeswalker
1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant

// 6 Sorceries
1 Burn at the Stake
1 Cultivate
1 Death by Dragons
1 Overrun
1 Savage Twister
1 Titanic Ultimatum

// 3 Artifacts
1 Lightning Greaves
1 Moonsilver Spear
1 Wayfarer's Bauble

// 30 Creatures
1 Armada Wurm
1 Beetleback Chief
1 Borderland Ranger
1 Brutalizer Exarch
1 Centaur's Herald
1 Craterhoof Behemoth
1 Crusader of Odric
1 Dawntreader Elk
1 Diligent Farmhand
1 Dragonlair Spider
1 Druid of the Anima
1 Enlisted Wurm
1 Fiend Hunter
1 Frontline Medic
1 Geist-Honored Monk
1 Gluttonous Slime
1 Hellkite Hatchling
1 Kessig Cagebreakers
1 Living Hive
1 Mikaeus, the Lunarch
1 Mitotic Slime
1 Mycoloth
1 Ondu Giant
1 Preyseizer Dragon
1 Quirion Elves
1 Thromok the Insatiable
1 Viridian Emissary
1 Vitu-Ghazi Guildmage
1 Wayfaring Temple
1 Worldspine Wurm

The idea of the deck is to create a lot of tokens with Rith, and other token making spells like Assemble the Legion, Dragonlair Spider and Mycoloth. Then use those tokens to cast one of my devour creatures, or simply overrun my opponents with cards like Overrun, Craterhoof Behemoth and Titanic Ultimatum.
The rest of the deck either creates tokens, works well with a lot of creatures, or removes threats, or creates more mana for me to use.

The problem I run into mostly is that the deck is very vulnerable to removal. I usually find that after I finally created my army of saprolings, that I walk straight into a board wipe, or when I have devoured my army of saprolings, that my one big creature gets the axe. I'm finding that the deck can't really get back into it after such setbacks, and I'm spending the next couple of turns rebuilding everything I had, and thus not contributing to the rest of the game, if I even manage that. I play in a board wipe heavy meta, and my thought was that I could just recast Rith and almost continue from where I left off, but that does not really work out in practice.

I'm looking for tips in improving the deck so that it has an easier time bouncing back after a board wipe, or other removal.
Please note that I won't buy any cards that cost more then 5 euro. I know I have some cards in here that are more expensive, but most of those cards come out of sealed products.

Part of the problem may be that your token generators are too costly. Assemble the Legion, Dragonlair Spider and Mycoloth are just high on the curve to have a good set of bodies for Rith to work with when you're ready to get Rith onto the table.

Cards like Aura Mutation, Artifact Mutation, Rith's Charm, Seed Spark, Fists of Ironwood, Selesnya Evangel are cheap and will provide a good pile of tokens for Rith to multiply on. There are others you can run, but I would probably run these ones first.

Second, you're going to face wraths. There's not a lot you can do about this, except play Rootborn Defenses (which you've got). You could try playing Lapse of Certainty to delay it long enough for an overrun effect, but if you're in a wrath heavy environment, delaying one player's sweeper may not matter.

Fecundity can draw back all the resources you spent time cultivating and lost to a wipe.

Finally, you could use Darksteel Plate or Indestructibility for Rith, which might make it hard for many sweepers to affect him (Terminus, Hallowed Burial and Final Judgment will still give you fits, but at least it's not every dork with an Oblivion Stone).

Here's my anti-Wrath tech package for my Rith deck:

Rootborn Defenses
Boros Charm (THE BEST!)
Dauntless Escort

Academy Rector
Vicious Shadows

Fresh Meat
Fecundity

The first three obviously just make your army un-Wrath-able. Watch out for stuff like Kagemaro, First to Suffer or Merciless Eviction, though!

The next pair are just "Go on. Wrath. I DARE you!" Cards. They won't usually stop the Wrath from occuring but they ensure you get your revenge on (in the case of Shadows) or at least make your opponent feel miserable that they basically helped you get your Doubling Season online.

The last two cards are just good at ensuring you still have shit to do, post-Wrath. You'll either have a board full of 3/3's or a grip full of crads. Either way, you'll have an easier time rebuilding.

Oh, and Burn at the Stake is awesome in a Token deck.

Thanks for the tips thaumaturge and Sinis.

I have edited this deck somewhat. I could have sworn I had Boros Charm lying around, turns out I haven't. I haven't been able to pick one up either...

Despite that I have been able to make the following changes:

out:
Divine Reckoning
Armadillo Cloak
Mage Slayer

in:
Burn at the Stake
Beetleback Chief
Frontline Medic

I added Burn at the Stake, I can't believe I missed that one for my deck. Beetleback Chief for a bit of early tokens and Frontline Medic as a quick band-aid as I'm missing Boros Charm.

I'm going to play with these changes and see how it goes.

I play a Rith deck that is pretty awesome to play, and does stupid things on a regular basis.

My first suggestion is to not worry about the Devour stuff so much. Your tokens have a ton of value as regular creatures that you can exploit.

Suggestions (a whole bunch, so you certainly won't like them all :) ):

Land - I would try a lower land count, just to see if you really need a full 40

Sunhome, Fortress of the Legion - Double-strike can end games really quickly
Kessig Wolf Run - has won the game for me more times than I care to admit
Vitu-Ghazi, - not super efficient, but it gets you tokens even if you have nothing else on the field

Enchantments - My favorite card type by far

Abundance - amazing every time I've played it
Aura Shards - ditto
Bear Umbra - some wrath protection, and amazing effect
Cathars' Crusade - if this sticks for a while, it is essentially GG
Druids' Repository - can make insane mana in a token deck
Glare of Subdual - token lockdown
Mirari's Wake - insane mana in any deck
Night Soil - efficient graveyard hate and makes on theme tokens
Parallel Lives - the relevant half of Doubling Season for cheap
Reconnaissance - amazing + cheap enchantment that lets you go berserk every combat

Sorcery

Collective Unconscious - lots of cards, please
Overwhelming Stampede - better overrun
Saproling Symbiosis - lots of tokens, please
Triumph of the Hordes - alt-win for the win

Artifact

A set of the on-color signets - ramp, fixing, etc
Chromatic Lantern - ditto, but also makes your lands Command Towers
Eldrazi Monument - wrath protection and evasion for what should be a tiny upkeep
Skullclamp - cards and more cards

Instant - Sinis' suggestions are exactly what I would recommend

Creature

Champion of Lambholt - unblockable token army, check
Hellrider - super lethal
Juniper Order Ranger - makes things big, and gets stupid huge
Mentor of the Meek - cards
Moonveil Dragon - I almost never see this in lists, and the effect is insane
Nacatl War-Pride - this may be the most absurd card in Magic
Nullmage Shepherd - permanent control
Odric, Master Tactician - should be very easy to activate
Psychotrope Thallid - I like extra cards
Rhys the Redeemed - pricy, but awesome
Utopia Mycon - cheap, tokens, and ramp
