So I've been going back and reading a lot of books I had seen in my childhood yet never ended up reading--Dune, Ender's Game, etc.--and ended up coming across some Pern books (Anne McCaffrey) in the used book store not too far away. Picked one up, and liked it a lot. I could relate deeply with the main character of this particular book, and was pleased there were two more. They happened to have a copy of the second book in that trilogy, and I read it too. And then I went and got the third one, looking forward to the conclusion of the story.

THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE THIRD BOOK ISN'T THE SAME MAIN CHARACTER IN THE OTHER TWO. In fact, the original main character is barely present, and the new main character isn't even close to as interesting. It's like Metal Gear Solid 2 all over again.

What in the world would possess you to write a great main character and story for two books in a trilogy, and then leave their storyline completely unfinished? No, seriously, the biggest unresolved problem is forever unresolved.

So frustrating. [/rant]

Since we're complaining, the first two books of the Sword of Truth series are among my favorite books ever, and I really wish the author hadn't steered the series into some half-baked, heavy handed bootstrappy/libertarian wank-fest.

Psoraphora Ciliata. What sane God would allow such a monster to exist?

Sane? I'm not troubled by such simple human classifications.

Just for that, next year, they will be even bigger! I think twice the size they are now, ought to do .
