So what's the best 1 drop in Magic (specifically EDH) that's not named Sol Ring

Sensei's Divining Top?
Deathrite Shaman?
Skullclamp?
Goblin Welder?
Land Tax?
Aether Vial?

Over the next 7 days' I'll keep a tally of the top sixteen 1 drops and at the end of the 7 days I'll create a tournament tree, pitting the cards against one another in an a winner take all (which is nothing really--but it should be fun) tourney.

Rules:
1 card per post in [card ]x[/card ] format
1 post per person
the card nominated must be a permanent
the card nominated must be legal in EDH
Sol ring can't be nominated
No trashing other people's card choices. Let's keep it civil people :)

You may picks may be chosen for any reason, you may consider it the "best" 1 drop or simply your "favorite." Whatever it is you enjoy about the card, please feel free to let us know why you chose your particular card. or just drop your nomination.

Good luck to your pick!!
Have fun!

Ely

Soothsaying is my personal favorite.

Wayfarer's Bauble is a close second.

Phyrexian Reclamation

Was gonna say Faithless Looting until I saw you were asking for Permanents only. To be fair though, if it were any old spell, they'd probably all get blown away by StP.

My favourite is phyrexian reclamation such a great card and IMO underused, probably because people shy away from life paying effects still

One of the most solid Turn Ones in the format is Command Tower* -> Sol Ring -> Sensei's Divining Top -> Top's first ability. Based on that and Sol Ring being exempt from this contest, I'd have to give it to Top.

*--assuming a multicolored deck

How is Mother of Runes not a default on the list?

Maybe because tiny bodies tend to die horribl in EDH as a by product of wraths or as chump blockers? I never found a place for her even in my white knight equipment deck, same way that mana aren't really playable outside of maybe elves?

Serra Ascendant. Just great efficiency. Swinging for 6 on T2 and giving you enough life that you can race just about anything.

Are you really using "dies to removal" or "chump blocking as a reason why Mother of Runes is bad? She chump blocks all day. She makes your entire field NOT die to removal unless it's mass removal. Maybe read what the card does and what the topic is about before providing thoughtless answers? She's definitely superior to Goblin Welder as far as 1 drops go and that was a default suggestion (although he does belong on the list as well).

Think you need to calm down before attacking a reply. It wasn't thoughtless it was serious.
I was replying to the reason I believe Mother of Runes was not on the list, since that was your original question. You know, like a real adult does. I didn't say your pathetic 1/1 sucks noob, did i? And I didn't say dies to removal, i said dies to subsequest removal too often to be relevant. In my experience small creatures die to Elesh type events way too often to be worthy of inclusion. Small global burn to remove commanders and little pesky things like her happen too often.

Edit 2
I was actually suggesting my answers to you as possible reasons, not asking questions to be arrogant, I was genuinely trying to stir a conversation about your question

Name one playable one drop creature (Not counting Serra Ascendant) that doesn't die to "elesh norn effects" or wraths. It's really an irrelevant excuse for a discussion about one drops. If someone is wasting a wrath to kill your 1/1, that's a pretty damn good trade and most definitely "worthy of inclusion". Although "worthy of inclusion" can be entirely dependant on meta conditions but I'd wager anything good enough to make a "top 16" list is good enough to include anyway if it's on theme.

While your response may have been "serious" it doesn't make it any less thoughtless and really contrary to the discussion you're replying to. Do Deathrite Shaman and Goblin Welder not die to exactly the same thing (and MANY more)? They still made the OPs list. Every creature dies to splash damage from someone using a wrath to remove a single bigger threat. That doesn't bear any relevance as to the playability of creatures.

Who chump blocks with utility creatures unless they're getting attacked for lethal anyway?

Suppose if you think there are that many playable one drops, especially creatures thats up to you, I don't put much stock in one drops in EDH no matter how good they might be. Drawing a 1 drop creature turn 10 sucks, every time, so i don't play them. One drop enchantments and artifacts are also part of the discussion. My opinion of one drop creatures being crap is valid. Whether you say so, or not
