While anyone can see this forum is old, this is the first time I read of anyone who thinks we need "new fancy stuff". I'm having a good time here, although I doubt that is your goal with this forum. What this forum does do you very good is explaining the finer nuances of the ban list and format rules. What else does the RC need?

No, I just meant bringing the technology of the website and forum into the 21st century.

Thanks for clearing that up. But that means neural implants for all the forum regulars and unbanning Recurring Nightmare, right?

I wouldn't mind seeing this as a Facebook group or something similar. I'm on that platform a lot more often, and believe it or not I think people are more civilized when there is a link between what they say online and their real identity.

Please no facebook. Have something with threads, topics, and a decent search function

The older folks of us would just have to learn how to hashtag. I do it for work, via SharePoint so it's kinda already in my wheelhouse. I can assume it'd be difficult for those who aren't already familiar with it.

Reddit is another site that takes some getting used to, and there is already an EDH section there.

Google+ also has some capabilities available that could serve as an outlet.

I think when you're looking at upgrading the technology of it all, I think shifting the platform from phpBB (or even just updating and adding some features) would be beneficial. I'd be half tempted to volunteer as Webmaster for it (since I kinda work with this stuff anyway), but I'd put ads into the sides or try and get sponsorship so that it's not all out of pocket. I'm sure Sheldon could swing a StarCityGames banner ad or two (might be against Wizards' rules though).

Hashtagging on Facebook doesn't solve anything; I use them for a weekly NFL update I do for some friends and even searching on that hashtag does not return everything from the last month, let alone the last two years.

Facebook is frankly unfit for purpose for anything for which it's desirable to have a history greater than two weeks.

As one of those millennial younguns using Facebook I agree. Plus here I get some pseudonymity. Facebook would be entirely unfit as the official community for a game or community like this one.

Modernizing doesn't mean no forums. If it does mean no Invision Board, there's other modern forum software available such as Discourse (first off the top of my head). Lots of communication also occurs on Discord or Slack, which are chat services with servers and rooms (like IRC) and Discord is more gamer oriented, but I still wouldn't replace these forums with any kind of chat, they're just another way the community can also socialise.

~~~
I don't have a specific question of the week to offer but I'd be very interested in hearing what the January discussions among the RC members about getting younger members onto the rules committee result in.
I assume RC does not need it but just in case I can help you get this site to the 21st century technology including a mobile app.
We can talk about your needs (I am talking now to the site owners) and I can advise you what do we need to do to accomplish that.
I have a degree on CS as an Analyst and developer so if needed I can fulfill both roles
Discord is great for a number of things (I'm on 15 different Discord servers at the moment) and the search function is good but again it doesn't do threaded conversations.
I agree (more or less) that phpBB isn't the most modern platform but it does things pretty well. The other forums that I'm a member of either still use phpBB or use Discourse which does some things very well, and some things not as well, as phpBB. It's much more modern looking though.
I purposefully spell out "hashtag" as a joke to my siblings, because I amuses me to seem like I'm simultaneously young and old.
With Facebook, I don't think I would entirely mind losing some anonymity with a lot of folks around here, but I wouldn't necessarily enjoy losing all anonymity with anybody who passes through these forums. Even then, I barely use Facebook any longer. All my friends moved away from using it heavily.
Reddit and Discord are still kinda new to me, even though I've been using both for some time now. I normally don't make any posts on the EDH subreddit, just respond to the things which interest me. I did try to get more involved in a budget EDH subreddit. I stopped enjoying it pretty quickly when I realized most of the activity revolved around evaluating decks based on whether it's your favorite commander and not whether the deck was actually well made. I could spend a lot of time trying to make a solid deck based around an interesting idea, but the deck composed of the top 60 most used budget cards on EDHrec is all that gets attention.
I guess overall I'm willing to learn and adjust to anything as long as these forums don't disappear completely. Grixmas is something I look forward to every year with pleasure. Sorry, just chiming in with some of my thoughts.
The forums here are fine and don't need updating as long as they are working as intended. It's so nice coming here and having just a normal forum format that reads linearly. Forget Reddit, discord, facebook, or whatever other confusing thing.
Question for Sheldon:
From a design standpoint, how do you feel about cards like Arcades, the Strategist that fill a needed role/archetype, but are designed in a way that generates cookie cutter decks.
